15.1 Is …

What do you think 15.1 will be? Our writer makes his prediction.
By James Toland ,

So I don’t know what 15.1 is. I do various jobs for the CrossFit Games and for CrossFit HQ, but I have NO idea what the Open workouts are going to be, and frankly, I don’t want the burden of having that “top secret” info. Part of the fun (of what people refer to as “CrossFit Christmas,” aka the Open and live announcements) is the speculation that swirls through the community leading up to the live Thursday events.

To predict the future, let’s first examine the past. Here is a rundown of all the Week One announcements since 2011:

11.1:Complete AMRAP in 10 minutes of:

30 double-unders

15 power snatches (75 pounds)

12.1: Complete 7 minutes of burpees.

13.1: Proceed through the sequence below completing AMRAP in 17 minutes of:

40 burpees

75/45-pound snatch, 30 reps

30 burpees

135/75-pound snatch, 30 reps

20 burpees

165/100-pound snatch, 30 reps

10 burpees

210/120-pound snatch, AMRAP

14.1: “The Retest” of 11.1 Complete AMRAP in 10 minutes of:

30 double-unders

15 power snatches (75 pounds)

So I asked some people: What will 15.1 (starring “The Champ” Rich Froning Jr. and “The Heir to the Title” Mat Fraser) be?

12 minutes AMRAP: 15 box jumps, 10 deadlifts, 3 muscle-ups.” — Anthony, Illinois

“12 minutes AMRAP: 15 ground to overhead 135/95, 20 toes-to-bar, 25 wall-ball shots, 30 double-unders.” — Kevin, Arkansas

‘“Fran up’ 21-15-9: thrusters (100/75), muscle-ups.”— Jesse, Missouri

“I hope it’s like a snatch ladder but without the burpees like before. That would be cool to watch Rich and Mat just do a snatch ladder against each other.”— Scott P., Ohio

My own prediction would be a total curveball. What if everyone is thinking that it will be heavy overhead and a little longer, based on the two athletes they selected, but Dave Castro surprises everyone with a burpee, pull-ups, double-unders triplet? All bodyweight MET-CON, just to mess with everyone’s minds.

So … what do you think 15.1 will be? Leave your suggestions in the comments and tune in Thursday at games.crossfit.com to find out the answer.
