The Power of Pre-Made Meals

If zero-nutrition impulse eating is undercutting your workout gains, healthy and convenient prepared meals could be your fitness salvation.
PreMade meals

After another productive day at work, another workout crushed, it’s time to recover and eat. Unfortunately, yesterday was an even longer day, and you haven’t had time to go grocery shopping, let alone prepare anything remotely nutritious. You need something, so you end up ordering pizza — again. Although you felt good today, work and poor eating habits are derailing your gains, and your health could start to suffer.

Fortunately, you can rewrite this script. You can pre-order healthy meals that are waiting for you at the gym when you finish your workout (or have them delivered to your home). These companies offer healthy pre-made Paleo-friendly food options to meet your needs for any meal of the day.

Pre-Made Paleo

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America and leading his own catering company for seven years, chef Richard Bradford founded RSB Foods in 2012 with a vision to change how people eat. With chef Amy Crites, Bradford developed Pre-Made Paleo — a brand of gourmet, wholesome prepared meals. Consistent with Paleo principles and its Whole30-approved labeling, the company uses only grass-fed, antibiotic-free, free-range and pastured meats. All vegetables are 100 percent certified organic. All meals are gluten-, grain-, dairy- and legume-free, with no refined sugar. Chefs in the company’s USDA-inspected facility prepare weekly menus that include beef, pork, turkey and two chicken entrees, with vegetable side dishes. A la carte items like beef hamburgers, soups, stews, breakfast skillets and trail-mix snacks are also on the menu. Regular meals include 5 ounces of protein and 7 ounces of veggies; “warrior” meals are available with extra protein (8 ounces). All meals are made from scratch, vacuum-sealed in BPA-free packages and flash-frozen for home delivery. When refrigerated, meals last for about a week, but they can be frozen for longer preservation. Located in Atlanta, Pre-Made Paleo ships its meals across the United

Pete’s Paleo

Pete’s Paleo was created by chef Pete Servold, trained at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta, and his wife, Sarah, a former advertising executive. After facing a grim diagnosis of pericarditis, Pete made a lifesaving decision to embrace healthier living. Today, the duo aims to make living a Paleo lifestyle easier and tastier for others. Pete’s Paleo meals are completely gluten-, dairy-, soy-, egg- and sweetener-free, and they are made with organic produce and grass-fed and pastured animals. Meals include 5 to 6 ounces of protein and two 2- to 3-ounce sides. Upgrades with extra protein and additional sides are available on request. Pete’s Paleo also offers 1-pound slabs of bacon that’s dry-cured with salt, herbs and spices and is cold-smoked for two days. Based in San Diego, Pete’s Paleo meals are available for delivery nationwide. All food is delivered fresh, not frozen, and can be refrigerated for up to one week or placed in the freezer for up to two months.
